Halloween Safety
⚠️ HALLOWEEN SAFETY – PLEASE READ!
Halloween brings hundreds of pedestrians and significant vehicle traffic into Sherwood's streets. We want everyone to enjoy the evening, but safety must remain a priority.

🚶 Pedestrian Visibility & Dark Costumes
Many Halloween costumes include dark clothing, making pedestrians particularly difficult to see after sunset.
Drivers: Slow down and watch carefully for pedestrians, especially children wearing dark costumes who may be difficult to see.
Pedestrians: Never assume a driver can see you. Watch for approaching vehicles, look both ways before crossing, and avoid suddenly entering the roadway.
Parents: We strongly recommend adding reflective tape, glow sticks, LED lights, or other illuminated accessories to children's costumes. A small amount of additional visibility can make a significant difference.
🛺 Golf Carts, E-Bikes & Other Motorized Vehicles
The Sherwood Area Community Alliance has requested that the Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) conduct several patrols throughout the neighborhood on Halloween evening, with particular attention to reckless or erratic operation of golf carts, e-bikes, and other motorized vehicles.
The Alliance has specifically requested ZERO TOLERANCE for dangerous or reckless driving.
Parents, please take a few minutes BEFORE Halloween activities begin to speak with your children and teenagers who operate golf carts, e-bikes, or similar vehicles.
No reckless driving, speeding, racing, or dangerous maneuvers.
No operating vehicles in a manner that endangers pedestrians or other motorists.
No overcrowding golf carts or allowing passengers to ride unsafely.
Follow all applicable traffic laws and age restrictions.
Never operate a vehicle while distracted or impaired.
Violations may result in traffic citations, other legal consequences, or even arrest, depending on the circumstances. Please do not assume that Halloween festivities excuse unsafe or unlawful operation.
🚗 Traffic, Parking & Congestion
Our neighborhood roads remain open to normal traffic during Halloween activities.
Expect significant congestion, particularly along Lanter Drive, Sir Page Lane, and Longbow Drive.
Avoid unnecessary driving through the busiest areas when possible.
Do not block driveways, intersections, fire hydrants, or access for emergency vehicles.
Never allow children to ride in unsafe positions on golf carts or other vehicles.
Use extreme caution when backing out of driveways or moving between parked vehicles.
👨👩👧👦 Parents & Younger Children
Families with younger children are encouraged to begin trick-or-treating earlier in the evening, before the neighborhood becomes increasingly crowded and dark.
Keep children within sight, establish a meeting location in case anyone becomes separated, and remind children not to enter unfamiliar homes or vehicles.
🎃 Let's Keep Halloween Fun AND Safe!
The Alliance appreciates the cooperation of residents, visitors, parents, and motorists. Please remember that a few moments of carelessness can have serious consequences, particularly when our streets are filled with children.
Enjoy Halloween, respect our neighbors, and help keep Sherwood safe!
